Where can you get your grub on, and where can you hang with fellow Blood Bowlers during Chaos Cup weekend?!

The hotel is located on Dundee rd, right at Route 53, which is perfect for people driving. Below is a list of places within 1.5 miles in either direction.

If you turn right (west) onto Dundee Rd, you’ll find:

Panda Express, Sonic, Wendy’s, Subway, White Castle, Taco Bell, Einstein Bros Bagels, Denny’s, Starbucks, Baskin Robbins, Jimmy Johns, Caribou Coffee, Kosta’s (bugers, gyros, etc), and of course a nearby Liquor Store and even a Games Workshop store 1 mile away!

If you turn left (east) onto Dundee Rd, you’ll find:

Jameson’s Streakhouse (great steaks), Fox and Hound (most likely where we will be gathering Saturday Night), Portillo’s, Chuck E. Cheese (wat?), Burger King, Panera Bread, Noodles & Co, Popeye’s Chicken, Pizza Hut, Dunkin Donuts, McDonald’s, Oberweis, Jimmy John’s

If you turn right (west) onto Dundee Rd, then right on Route 12, you’ll find:

Tore & Lukes (burgers, pizza, etc), Culver’s, Gator’s Wing Shack

Don’t forget, if you are staying at HIE Palatine, you get a free shuttle ride to any of the area restaurants and bars!

City of Chicago

GENERAL

Chaos Cup 2012 will be held in the Chicago suburb of Palatine, IL. Palatine is about 28 miles from downtown Chicago, and only 14 miles from O’Hare Airport. Don’t forget, if you are staying at the venue, Holiday Inn Express Palatine, you get a $28 taxi from airport. You can even stay at the hotel at the special rate from 9/12 – 9/18 so it will give you plenty of time to see what the City of Chicago has to offer. Use Group Code CCC.

AUTOMOBILE

There is an Enterprise Rent-a-car not too far away from the hotel, which they will also provide a free shuttle service for Guests too. If you decide to rent a car, you will want to take Dundee Rd east to 53 South (aka I-290 East) then connect to I-90 (aka The Kennedy) and take that East directly into Downtown Chicago. You could also stay on I-290 East (aka The Eisenhower) and take that into Chicago as well.

TRAIN

Taking Dundee Rd West then a left on N Smith Street will take you to the Palatine Metra train station. It’s called the Union Pacific – Northwest Line (UP-NW). It will take you to Ogilvie Transportation Center on Madison St in Chicago. From there you can walk, take a cab, bus, or walk to an EL station – the Chicago subway system.

CHICAGO

Chicago has a ton of interesting attractions to see while you’re in the area. Interested in museums? Want to go to the top of the tallest building in the US? How about a planetarium observatory? Check out the Chicago “City Pass” for huge discounts on multiple attractions in the city of Chicago! Looking for a certain type of food? Chicago, being one of the largest cities in the country, has restaurants that can cater to whatever you’d like!

Also, keep in mind, we will be looking to do a group trip to Wrigley Field on the Friday before Chaos Cup. More information on that as the event gets closer.

The wait is over, the new venue for CHAOS CUP is now confirmed!

The Ballroom is HUGE! If you remember the space in the bunker last year, this is even bigger than that!

We’ll get a bunch of 3×6 and 3×8 tables to use… and yes, regular size tables so you can sit comfortablely for all 6 games. Toss in a big screen/projector, mic and PA system and we are all set to run a kick ass Chaos Cup there!

GUEST SERVICES

Blood Bowl Lounge

You get access to this nice lounge area which is open 24/7, which I can only imagine will consist of lots of nighttime gaming. With that said, I don’t think they will want alcohol in that area, but you could always go up to your rooms for that.

BREAKFAST
You get free hot breakfast. Not just a continental roll at other places… eggs and other good selections each morning for breakfast is included

AIRPORT SHUTTLE
For $28, up to 4 people together can get a ride to O’Hare airport thru their partnered taxi service…. or you can get picked up from the airport and brought back to the hotel. It’s a one way charge, but split that amongst 4 people and it’s pretty cheap. Remember..you want O’Hare Airport. NOT Midway Airport.

AREA SHUTTLE
The hotel gives guests complimentary shuttle to and from about 40 different restaurants and local attractions. I’ll list all the places on the Chaos Cup website soon, but really you’ve got a good 5 mile radius to and from anywhere you want totally free.

PARKING
If you did drive, the parking is free. So no worries there.

WORKOUT/POOL
The hotel is actually connected to a World Gym to those guests who want to work off all the sitting around while they are there.

Also there is a huge pool you can use. Basketball and Volleyball too. All included, just use your room key to get in.

INTERNET
Free wired internet inside all rooms. Free Wi-Fi in lounge, lobby, and our ballroom.

HIGHWAYS
It’s located right off of 53/290 and Dundee Rd. People do can 290 East(South) and connect to 90 East into city.

TRAIN
Hotel is a few miles from Palatine Metra, Arlington Park Metra, and Wheeling Metra. Just contact the hotel for a shuttle to and from the train station.

ATTRACTIONS IN AREA
Durty Nellies (bands play there), Arlington Racetrack, Medieval Times, Woodfield, Allstate Arena… and the new Rivers Casino is not too far away. I’ll post full list on the Chaos Cup website.

ALTERNATE ROOMS
If you are trying to be on an extra tight budget, there is a Motel Six right across the street. I do not know the rate, but if it’s not too much less than the $79 at Holiday Inn Express, then I’d consider just staying at our Chaos Cup hotel and enjoying the company of some fellow out of towners!

CUBS GAME
Last year, some of us went to Wrigley Field the Friday before Chaos Cup. It was a blast and we plan on doing it again this year. I’ll put information for that together in a separate post. It’s fun to all sit near each other and drink some shitty beer together!

WEBSITE
If you are having ANY concerns about coming or not, just have a look at the 2011 Photo’s section of the Chaos Cup Website. Last year was the largest Chaos Cup ever and this year will be even bigger! With side games like Skaven-Ger Hunt, Triple Skulls, Guess the Dice, and Blood Bowl Poker, there will always be something going on that weekend.

Meet The Chaos Cup Committee

Starting in 2011, a committee was formed to handle the organization of the Chaos Cup. Jonny P took the reigns from Tom Anders, and assembled his team of trustworthy pals. As the Chaos Cup Committee Director, the Zlurpcast Main Guy oversees operations of the entire event, along with recordkeeping during the tournament, production of swag and other merchandise, and overall contact for any questions about the Chaos Cup in general.

Bryan “Xtreme” Mitchell, long-time NAF legend, and of course Zlurpcast’s famous “Other Guy”, created the team-building, scoring system, and other rules used specifically for the Chaos Cup. He is also in charge of all promtion of the event, whether that means invading local league forums or getting people to post flyers and spread the word about the Chaos Cup. If that’s not enough, Xtreme is also the Assistant Director for the Committee helping out Jonny where needed.

Someone trustworthy and organized was desperately needed to handle funds regarding not just pre and onsite registration, but handling the prizes, swag, pitches, trophies, and everything else that goes into funding an event of this magnitude. Valdric Mike gladly stepped in to assist as the Financial/Merchandise Manager. He also serves as the voice of reason when Jonny gets a bit out of control with what new ideas to implement for the Chaos Cup. Money talks, Valdric walks.

Jim Rufer, also known as Alkaline13 and Taylor 2.0 is the Chaos Cup Facilities Manager. Both inside the venue and outside, luckily we have Rufer to handle everything. Its the most physically demanding of all the committee positions, and as the youngest member, he meets all requirements! Arranging tables, layout of everything, places to eat and hang out, is a thankless but very necessary job that we are all glad Rufer stepped up to manage.
