I’m hoping to have to invest in some wax by the end of the month.

Progress has been going a lot slower then I need it to.  I’m sure there are some other gamers out there that can understand this but i’ve lost focus on this team, and feel the deadline creeping up on me very quickly.  I really hope this doesn’t turn into a mad rush to get the team done the week before the tourney (but i’m pretty sure that will happen).

I got the rest of my minis in the mail to fill out the league roster for the team.  But won’t be using any of them in my tournament roster.  As this is the first tournament to allow Crom to play I am now planning on taking him, I heard the guy could use the money.  So I have plans on converting a cool action pose Crom, which means I have created more work for myself.  Always a good idea when you are strapped for time.

As you can see I have been able to finish two of the Nurgle Warriors for the team.  I will end up with two of each of these models on the team, they will be the only models that are repeated.

As i’ve mentioned a couple times now on the podcast i’m a big fan of Scott Sigler, particularly his GFL series.  If I had to briefly describe it to a bloodbowl crowd I would say it’s Sci-Fi Bloodbowl well written and entertaining, but more real football rules and on field action.

With a little work you can find most of his books in audio podcast form, so you can try them out for free.  I also have nothing but positive things to say about the audio book versions.  If you want the books as audio books without the commercials that are on the podcast he offers those on his site as well.  Ebooks are also available.  The printed books are a little pricey but most of that is because he self publishes them.

So what I’d recommend is either looking for the the podcast for the first GFL book titled ‘The Rookie’.  Or just buy the audiobook for $10 from his site and give it a try.  I think a lot of you will be hooked like I am.  He also has a lot of nice GFL content on his website which is pretty cool.

As Jonny teased in the Zlurpnation email and i’m sure we have talked about everywhere on the net.  We are both starting new teams with intentions of having them done for the same tournament.  So we thought we would do a series of blog posts talking about the teams, everything from theme to models and painting to tournament rosters and our results.

My team of choice is going to be Nurgle.

They are one of a couple of races that I never collected models for because I never liked any of the models that were out there.  That was until I saw Franarcilla’s disgustingly gorgeous Nurgle minis.

So I will be using the two flesh golems with all the heads and body parts coming out of them as my Nurgle Warriors, the Chaos Beast with the unhelmeted head and tentacle arm as my Beast of Nurgle, the new pestigors as the well pestigors and all of the rest of the range will be rotters.

I had placed an order for a bunch of the team awhile back, but now that there are more models ready I still need to place an order to fill out my team, but I have plenty to get me started.  For my tournament roster I really only need one of the pestigors.

My team is going to be called,

Garbage Pail Kids

and will be themed off of the awesome Garbage Pail Kids Stickers/Cards of my youth.

For team colors I really want to do green and yellow, but that is how my Chaos Pact team is painted so I’ve decided on Green and Black.

At this point I have all the models prepped, assembled, and primed.  I’ve begun laying down base coats on a couple of the Nurgle warriors, but really need to pick up the pace a bit.

So the Bloodbowl game is going to be released soon, and I imagine there will be a lot of people ordering it.

I’ve thought of it many times since GenCon and really regret not buying it.  I’ll be ordering it soon.

Awesome game that takes longer to explain then it does to learn.  Basically listening the the nice lady explain it when I sat down had me worried, but by the time we were done I felt like I was a pro and could teach others how to play.  Nice quality pieces as can be expected from Fantasy Flight and very fun quick gameplay.  So consider this an official Xtreme endorsement.

So I’m packing up all my equipment tonight so that I can be ready to be a member of the press at GenCon.  Hoping to get a lot of interviews from Bloodbowl coaches, as well as some interviews from representatives from some of the companies that will be there.

Going to try to talk to someone at Fantasy Flight about the Bloodbowl Card Game.

Impact i’m sure will make some time to talk to me.

Also maybe short interviews with chessex and litko, and i’m sure i’ll visit Romeo at Battlefoam.

Are there other companies I should try to talk to, bloodbowl related or otherwise?

I’m also planning to get some video coverage, and hopefully be tweeting all weekend, if my phone gets reception.

So GW makes itself a very easy target with some of their business decisions.  Often when someone starts bitching about the latest nitemare GW has caused there is usually one guy that jumps in with “Well they created these games didn’t they they must not be that bad”, or “Just quit playing then”.

I think a lot of the reason we bitch and complain about GW, is because we love their games.  I think it’s okay to bitch out of disappointment, I think we all would love for the company to be run well (and we all think we can do that better then them.) or for the games to be perfected and supported properly.  So bitching about something we love, because we expect more from it is okay IMO.  (Try that argument with your wife i’m sure it will work.)

So while I hate GW, and think that a lot of their buisness practices are stupid as hell.  I will continue playing their games, until they choose to run them all into the ground.

Of course in our small bloodbowl world we have a lot more reasons to hate GW.  But if the rumors are true and the secret release later this year is a ‘nice’ new edition of the game, then i’m sure a lot will be forgiven.

Don’t forget to buy more space marines.

Public service Announcement.

Basing your models is an important area that some very good painters often over look.  A bad base on a model can really take away from the overall look of the model, and at times it can be so bad that what would be a very good paint job can be easily overlooked as average.  Awhile ago I had a painter paint a team for me and when I got it back I was disappointed in the team and never really took it out of the case.  A year or so later I took them out when trying to figure out what teams I could sell, and upon further inspection came to notice that the paint job was actually excellent, but the bases were horrible.  So I spent some time redoing the bases and now have a fantastic looking team.

So please remember not to neglect your bases.
